The Friendship

--:--
--:--

The final installment in a four-postcard series by Australian couple Dabsmyla, The Friendship is a joyous celebration of Florida and the ties that knit us together.

The mural tells its exuberant love story through an assortment of colorful elements, which, although seemingly disparate, complement each other to form a cohesive and delightful whole. Personifying friendship, the central character is a trusty tugboat—a vessel known for assisting others—one gloved hand raised in a peace sign and a billowy text-based message issuing from its smokestack. “The Friendship,” reads the message, even as an adjacent Cupid-pierced heart declares “I love you."

Adding context to the emotion, a two-way arrow points to a crescent in the sky, suggesting the love is "to the moon and back." A pink flamingo, a Florida emblem and a representation of beauty, balance, and romance, claims the bottom of the mural, while an irresistible bee graces a poster that proclaims “Be mine.” A bouquet of pastel-colored flowers and other romantic accents—such as twinkling stars and a sunburst—complete the swoon-worthy tableau.

As is so often the case with Dabsmyla’s art, The Friendship is also about the artists, a charming testament to the depth, facets, and fun of their enduring union.
