Daniel Fila aka Krave

Blue Crab

Blue Crab is a mural by Miami-born artist Daniel Fila who achieved notoriety under the pseudonym Krave, with works commissioned by the Ritz Carlton, MTV, Greyhound, and SLS Hotel Miami Beach, among others.  A multi-faceted artist and an inspired standout in the street art genre, Krave was the first muralist  commissioned to bring culture to the walls of Destin Commons.

In Blue Crab, Krave captures the essence of coastal Destin, incorporating the emblematic vibrantly-colored crustacean as it shimmies across a wave-lapped beach, pincers raised. But there is more to this thought-provoking work than first meets the eye.  Krave’s illustrative surrealist style weaves in elements that add unexpected dimension and depth to the narrative. In fact, the artist describes the mural as portraying a silhouette-type spaceship landing on earth.

“The painting is a piece within a piece…” Krave notes, referring to the mural. “Every time people see it I want them to see something different and get lost in it.” The artist’s wish is plainly granted with Blue Crab, a work that challenges us to ceaselessly probe the layers of reality that lie beneath the surface.

Mattie the Giraffe

Mattie the Giraffe is a mural by Andi Scurto, an award-winning artist, writer, and Destin resident whose rich Colombian heritage and whimsical sense of adventure color her work. When Scurto’s poster featuring her giraffe won the 2015 Mattie Kelly Arts Festival, the character became such a beloved local icon that Destin Brewery even named a beer after her—the Mattie Light.
