Greetings From the Land of Sunshine is the third of a four-piece series of postcards by the Australian couple known as Dabsmyla, whose charming works animate street walls, galleries, and exhibits throughout the world. In this mural, the artists infuse their trademark technicolor panorama with their unique spin on symbols ubiquitous to Florida and a warm, text-based greeting.

Gracing the mural’s foreground, an endearing blue and yellow dolphin is the principal protagonist. With his mouth curved in a playful smile, the dolphin’s eyes are fixed on a candy-colored rainbow, its ends dipped into marshmallow clouds. Below the brilliant rainbow and riding atop text that reads “The Land of Sunshine,” viewers find a snapshot of quintessential Florida: enticing silhouettes of a palm tree, sunset, and sea-lapped sand.

It is no coincidence that this beach scene—Florida’s iconic calling card—is positioned toward the center of the piece. Nor that an orange, the state fruit, as well as a cascade of flowers, a tall fruity drink, and even a bolt of lightning occupy peripheral positions in the work. Indeed, as the husband and wife are swift to point out, there is “nothing random or erroneous about (their) work; it’s planned and executed with the precision of a diamond heist“!
