Australian husband and wife team Dabs and Myla, known collectively as Dabsmyla, are the creative force behind Good Vibes, the first in a series of four murals commissioned by Destin Commons. Emerging from the prolific Melbourne graffiti scene, the acclaimed visual artists have left their signature imprint around the world, including in Tahiti, Germany, Norway, and, from their home base of Los Angeles, throughout the United States.
Working as one, Dabsmyla bring their whimsical style to Good Vibes, a technicolor, postcard-like collage of feel-good images. While most are emblematic of Destin—such as the wave-riding sailboat, the palm trees and spray of flowers, the nibbled ice cream bar, the orange-hued sun, and even the adventure-bound propeller plane—other elements offer a direct window into the artists’ lives.
As Dabs notes, “We hope that stepping into an installation we create is like not only stepping into an immersive experience of the images... but also stepping into our state of mind and our love for each other.” Perhaps, then, the diamond, symbol of eternal love, the hearts, and the hand flashing a peace sign primarily tell the story of Dabs’ and Myla’s union, a continuum of love as seamless as the art they create together.
NEXT MURAL
Gone FishingThe Fisher is the second in a two-part series of works by Daniel Fila, also known as Krave. This mural continues the renowned artist’s aquatic theme at Destin Commons, depicting a fisherman making a splash as he reels in his catch. The subject matter pays homage to Destin’s heritage as a former fishing village.
